Questions To Ask When Shopping For A Disc Jockey
Are you Available?
Begin by asking if a booking is available on the date, and at the time,
you have chosen.
If the D.J. is already booked for your date, ask if they can recommend
another D.J.
For the best selection, begin shopping well in advance of your chosen
date.
(Bookings of 12-18
months in advance are not uncommon!)
How much do you charge?
Many shoppers ask this question and noothers! Comparison
shop for Quality (Good D.J.?
Good music? Good sound?), then for price. Make no mistake – you
do "get what you pay for!"
Hot Wax Unlimited is not the cheapest! There are other D.J. services
with which we simply cannot compete,
pricewise. (Our standards are high, and so are our operating costs!)
No, we're not the cheapest, but if you
don't mind paying a little extra to get a lot more, we might be the D.J.
service for you.
What types of music do you play?
Although the greatest advantage a D.J. has over a band is the ability
to provide variety,
many D.J.s still have a limited selection of music.
Ask a prospective DJ to send some type of song list.
Don't hesitate to ask about specific songs or artists. (In three hours,
a D.J. can play about 55 songs. A D.J. service may boast of 10,000
song titles, but still not have the 55 songs that your crowd wants to hear!)

What type of equipment do you use?
Ask if the service uses pro gear. Equipment designed to withstand
the rigors of the mobile D.J. business
sounds better, and is less likely to fail during your event.
Clean sound is the pride of Hot Wax Unlimited. Good sound requires
good sound systems, and ours feature gear from some of the "big guns"
in pro audio.

How long have you been in business? What type of experience
do you have?
A company that has been in business five years has more experience than
one that has just started. Ask if the company has experience with your
type of event.
Hot Wax Unlimited has been providing quality DJ entertainment in Southeast
Louisiana and Southern Mississippi for over nine years! We have played
many types of events (see the "Events" page for info about the six most
common),
and approximately 75% of our experience is with wedding receptions.
How long before start time will the D.J. arrive?
Allowing extra time in case of problems is a must. A D.J. that shows
up 20 minutes before start time only to have equipment trouble can ruin
your event. Also, be sure you are not charged for the time the D.J.
spends setting up and breaking down equipment.
Hot Wax Unlimited D.J.s arrive at least 90 minutes before your event start
time. Set-up can take from 30 minutes to
a hour depending on which equipment package was ordered . Hot Wax Unlimited
customers are never charged for
the time we spend setting up or breaking down equipment!
How will the D.J.s be dressed?
Hot Wax Unlimited's DJs always wear our trademark navy/khaki/white combo
for weddings and formal affairs,
and a staff shirt to informal affairs.
Does your company sign a service contract?
Don't "shell out" hard earned money for any service without signing
(and having the service sign) a contract
that, at the very least, specifies what, where, when and how much for
how long. We can't stress this enough-
GET IT IN WRITING!!
All Hot Wax Unlimited bookings are "formalized" at the time of deposit
by the signing of a service contract. The contract
specifies what (type of event, equipment package ordered),
where
(the location of the event), when (event start/end times), and how
much for how long (cost first three hours/cost each additional
hour/dollar amount of deposit). Also included are sections covering
the various rights and responsibilities of the service, and those of the
customer.
How do I know you will send a talented D.J. to host my
event?
Find out how the company selects their D.J.s. Do they provide
comprehensive training to ensure all of their D.J.s consistently
provide quality entertainment?
Hot Wax Unlimited begins by selecting "people" people who like to dance
and have good taste in music. We then put them through an extensive (minimum
3 months) training and evaluation course including classroom and on-site
training. Only after they have successfully completed this training do
we send them to host an event.
Ask around.
Ask your co-ordinator, photographer or reception hall contact if they
have ever worked with a prospective D.J.,
and if they would reccomend them.
